Co-founder Nikhil Kamath of Zerodha to generously donate majority of his fortune

Nikhil Kamath, the co-founder of Zerodha and a billionaire, has become the youngest Indian to pledge his commitment to "The Giving Pledge," an esteemed initiative established by renowned investors Warren Buffet and Bill Gates. By joining this philanthropic endeavor, Kamath follows in the footsteps of notable Indian philanthropists such as Azim Premji, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Rohini, and Nandan Nilekani.

"The Giving Pledge" encourages billionaires to contribute a substantial portion of their wealth to nonprofit organizations. By doing so, Kamath aims to support causes close to his heart, including climate change, energy, education, and health. Forbes estimates his wealth to be around $3.45 billion, which he plans to utilize to create positive change in these areas. Additionally, Kamath has established his own foundation called the Young Indian Philanthropic Pledge (YIPP). Through YIPP, he collaborates with entrepreneurs, inspiring them to donate a minimum of 25% of their net worth to charitable endeavors.

According to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022, their financial contributions increased by a staggering 300% to reach Rs 100 crore in the fiscal year 2021-2022. This achievement positions them as the ninth-largest individual donors in India.
